Imagine how convenient it would be to have your entire family’s dental needs handled under one roof. Dentistry of Sugar Hill makes this possible by offering dental services for every member of the family, no matter what generation. We understand how dental needs change at different stages of life, and we have services to keep teeth and gums healthy at any age.

Babies and Toddlers

Instilling good oral hygiene habits from a young age sets the stage for a lifetime of dental health. We recommend bringing your baby in for a dental visit once their first tooth grows in. At that visit, we can share information with you about caring for the rest of the baby teeth as they grow in.

Once your toddler is two or three years old, we recommend scheduling another appointment. During this visit, we focus on making dental care fun, relaxing and stress-free. There are toys, cartoons and a gentle cleaning. The goal is to create positive associations with dentistry, so your child is less likely to be fearful of future dental treatment.

Children and Teenagers

Pediatric dentistry services are mostly focused on instilling good brushing and flossing habits to prevent problems like cavities. The teeth and gums should be checked and professionally cleaned regularly (approximately every six months). Fluoride treatments or sealants may be recommended, depending on the child. X-rays and other imaging may be recommended periodically to look for problems with the tooth structures.

Orthodontic treatment becomes appropriate when the child’s permanent teeth have grown in. This is usually between the ages of 9 and 11. We can place traditional metal braces or use Invisalign aligners on teeth that are crooked, crowded or poorly aligned.

Adults of All Ages

Adults are just as susceptible to cavities as children, so preventive dental care and regular professional dentistry services are highly recommended. Gum disease and oral cancer are additional threats to the oral health of our adult patients, so we pay close attention to preventing these problems.

Adults may opt for elective cosmetic treatment to whiten or straighten teeth, or cover up superficial flaws. We can repair damaged or decayed teeth or replace missing teeth. We can also rehabilitate gums affected by periodontal disease.

Expecting Mothers

We highly recommend women see us before becoming pregnant, so we can complete any necessary dental work and make sure the teeth and gums are in optimal health in anticipation of the pregnancy. We can also explain how an expectant mother’s dental health affects her baby’s dental and overall health. For example, an expecting mother with periodontal disease is at a heightened risk of delivering a preterm, low birth weight baby.

Although professional cleanings and exams and perfectly safe during pregnancy, we recommend postponing extensive dental work or cosmetic treatment until after the baby is born.
