Dentures are a remarkable opportunity for anyone that is missing all or most of their teeth — they offer a second chance at an attractive smile and oral health. Modern dentures are extremely lightweight, comfortable and resistant to wear.

At Dentistry of Sugar Hill, we do our best to make the denture design and delivery process smooth and swift. The goal is to provide well-fitting, top quality prosthetics. We are always here if our patients ever need their dentures re-fitted or fixed for any reasons.

Understanding Your Denture Options

Dentures are plastic prosthetics that recreate the appearance of teeth and gum tissue. They make it easier to chew, speak and smile comfortably; they also prevent the facial muscles from sagging, which can happen when all of the teeth fall out. Dentures keep the facial appearance and profile looking full and youthful. Depending on the specific type, dentures can be removable or fixed in the jaw with dental implant posts.

There are two categories of dentures: partial and full.

Partial dentures are designed to replace some teeth (not all). The partial denture prosthetic consists of replacement teeth attached to an acrylic base that resembles the color of the gums. Partial dentures have a special clasp that fastens to the teeth surrounding the space.

Full dentures replace all of the teeth on the lower arch, upper arch or both. Like partial dentures, the artificial teeth are attached to an acrylic base that shares visual characteristics with the gum tissue. The denture appliance sits on top of the gums and, if removable, is secured with a strong adhesive. If the denture is fixed in the mouth, it clips onto several dental implant posts placed in the jaw.

The Process of Fitting Dentures

Tooth replacement Buford & SuwaneeYour denture appliance is custom-created to your specifications and preferences. All materials used are strong, durable and very attractive.

Before fitting and placing your dentures, there is a chance that our dentists may need to extract a few remaining teeth. If so, an immediate denture will be placed so you can chew, speak and smile naturally as the mouth heals.

To design your dentures, measurements and impressions will be taken. The unique ridges and crevices of your mouth will be identified and sent to the dental laboratory tasked with constructing your dentures. You will also select the desired color and translucent of the teeth of the dentures.

Once your prosthetic is ready, our dentist will position it in your mouth and show you how to secure it with adhesive. You will practice biting and chewing on the dentures. If any last-minute adjustments are needed at this time, we can make them on the spot.

This process is slightly different if you opt for implant-fixed dentures. Several implant posts will be surgically placed in your jawbone and heal before the dentures are designed and delivered. The dentures will be clipped into the posts and not removable, except by one of our dentists.
